7. DURATION OF PROGRAM AND SEMESTERS

7.1

The MS/MPhil program shall extend over a period of minimum two years or four semesters to maximum of four years or eight semesters. In case a student is unable to secure an MS/MPhil within the prescribed timeframe and claims for extension in duration, such cases shall be transferred to Graduate Studies Monitoring Committee (GSMC). In the event of force majeure (i.e., delay on account of circumstance beyond the control of student), the GSMC may recommend granting an extension in the period of award of MS/MPhil degree in accordance with the duration limiting factor(s) and shall also take corrective measures in case the delay is caused by process or administrative reasons. The final decision shall be taken by the AS&RB.

7.2

There shall be two semesters in a year, i.e., Fall and Spring, where each semester shall consist of 18 weeks including examinations.

7.3

A Credit hour of a theory/lecture is of sixty minutes (60) duration (including 10 minutes break) per week during a Semester. However, in case of project/laboratory/research work, one credit hour may require two to three contact hours per week during a semester.

7.4

Course work of 24 credit hours in the core and elective subjects.

7.5

Research/Thesis work of six credit hours on a research topic approved by the Advanced Studies and Research Board.

7.6

Course load on a scholar during a semester shall not be more than 12 credit hours.
